Jaime’s interest in weather goes back to childhood. He has been fascinated by storms for as long as he can remember, especially after experiencing a major blizzard as a kid in the late 1970s. That early curiosity eventually led him to study meteorology at Rutgers University before ultimately moving into computer science and technology as a career.

Even though his professional path changed, his passion for weather never went away. In recent years he began storm chasing in the Great Plains, which reignited his love for severe weather, forecasting, and documenting the atmosphere in motion. Photography became a natural extension of that passion — he is especially drawn to scenes where the power, structure, and beauty of the atmosphere all come together in one moment.

In November 2024 his image “Tornado and Rainbow over Texas” won Members’ Choice in the American Meteorological Society’s 2024 Photo Contest. The photo was captured on June 10, 2024 near Loop, Texas while chasing with his son and other relatives. The combination of a tornado and a rainbow in the same frame — raw power and quiet beauty side-by-side — was, in his words, a once-in-a-lifetime image.

His advice to anyone getting into weather photography: learn your subject, be patient, be observant, be ready — and put safety first. “No photo is worth putting yourself or others in danger.”
