⛈️ Severe Thunderstorm Warning — Cecil & NE Harford Counties, MD

ISSUED: 9:24 PM ET Sun Jul 5 | EXPIRES: 10:45 PM ET Sun Jul 5

What's Happening: The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 10:45 PM EDT. At 9:24 PM, severe thunderstorms were tracked along a line from near Jarrettsville to near Newtown, moving northeast at 25 mph. The main hazard is 60 mph wind gusts. Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall, which could injure people outdoors and damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees, localized power outages are possible, and unsecured light objects may become projectiles.

Who This Affects:

  • Cecil, MD
  • Harford, MD

Locations in the path include Elkton, Aberdeen, Havre De Grace, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Calvert, North East, Rising Sun, Charlestown, Cecilton, Warwick, Zion, Blake, Barksdale, Bohemias Mills, West Nottingham, Brantwood, Octoraro, Fair Hill, Glen Westover, and Bay View.

What To Do:

  • Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building for your protection.
  • Get indoors immediately — large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud-to-ground lightning are occurring. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck.
  • Torrential rainfall may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive through flooded roadways.
  • Secure or bring in loose outdoor items before the storm arrives.

Why Now: Radar indicates a line of severe thunderstorms producing damaging winds is moving northeast across the area at 25 mph.
