🌊 Flash Flood Warning — Caroline, Kent & Queen Anne's Counties, MD
ISSUED: 6:40 AM ET Mon Jul 6 | EXPIRES: 10:45 AM ET Mon Jul 6
What's Happening: The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of the Delmarva. As of 6:40 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area, with 2 to 3 inches already fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Expect flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other low-lying or poor drainage areas.
Who This Affects:
- Caroline, MD
- Kent, MD
- Queen Anne's, MD
Locations that may experience flash flooding include Centerville, Centreville, Church Hill, Carville, Starkey Corner, Hope, Starr, Old Town, Overton, and Queenstown.
What To Do:
- Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
- Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
- Move to higher ground if you are in a low-lying or flood-prone area.
Why Now: Doppler radar shows thunderstorms training over the same areas, dumping 2 to 3 inches of rain in a short window — more than the ground and drainage systems can absorb, which is triggering the flash flood threat.
