What's Happening: The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Flash Flood Warning for southern Caroline County and northeastern Talbot County in eastern Maryland. As of 6:10 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area, with 2 to 3 inches already fallen. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Who This Affects:
- Caroline, MD
- Talbot, MD
Locations that may experience flash flooding include Easton, Denton, Preston, Matthews, Tanyard, Harmony, Griffin, and Cordova. Expect flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other drainage and low-lying areas.
What To Do:
- Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads.
- Do not attempt to walk or drive through floodwaters — most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
- Move to higher ground if you are in a low-lying or flood-prone area.
- Monitor local NWS updates through the expiration time.
Why Now: Thunderstorms tracking across the mid-Shore are dropping heavy rainfall over a short period, overwhelming drainage in the warned area and triggering flash flood conditions.
