Overview This Tuesday mid-week FishCast is mostly a weather report rather than a broad bite report. As of 2026-09-29, the nor’easter has kept most saltwater effort off the water, while the bundle’s only clear fish report was bluefish at Indian River Inlet on metal lures during incoming water. The water picture is also mixed: Delaware Bay buoy 44009 is still showing 78.3°F, while the nearby offshore readings at Cape May and Long Island are in the mid-60s.
The cadence matters this week. The Friday main report usually gives the fullest picture, but this mid-week check-in is mainly a snapshot of what survived the storm and what did not. MD DNR was unavailable this cycle, so the Maryland side is lean on fish detail and heavier on tide and river context.
🌊 Atlantic & Surf Confidence: good on conditions, limited on fish. Old Inlet Bait and Tackle said surf fishing was effectively shut down by 14-foot waves and 40-knot winds. The same storm also kept the offshore fleet tied up, with Hook ‘em and Cook ‘em reporting that no boats got out through the inlet and into the canyons. There is no meaningful surf pattern to work from in this bundle; for now, the practical advice is to wait for NOAA to show a calmer marine window before planning a beach or inlet trip.
The best read on this zone is simple: the fish may be there, but the water has not been fishable for most anglers. That makes this a conditions-driven week, not a lure-testing week.
🟦 Delaware Bay Confidence: good. The Delaware Bay side was largely quiet from top to bottom. Patty at Captain Bones, far up the bay, had no report at all, and Steve at Smith Bait in Leipsic said high winds and rough seas kept the bay from producing anything usable. Dan’s Tackle did report one bait sale to an angler headed for the Cape Henlopen State Park pier, which is about as close as the bay came to a fishable note in this cycle.
The bay also needs to be read alongside the NOAA tide and buoy data. Lewes is showing high water at 10:58 and 23:23 on Tuesday, and the Delaware Bay buoy 44009 is carrying a 78.3°F reading in the bundle. Even with that warmer water, the storm conditions have kept the report thin.
🟩 Chesapeake Bay (MD) Confidence: thin. Maryland DNR was unavailable this cycle, so this section is limited by the source gap rather than by a confirmed empty bite. The tide picture still gives anglers a reason to stay aware of the bay: Cambridge shows high water at 05:59 and 18:36, and Annapolis shows highs at 07:09 and 20:16 on Tuesday. Those windows are useful only if the wind and chop ease enough to make the trip worthwhile.
Because there were no Maryland agency reports in the bundle, this week’s Chesapeake section is best treated as a hold note. Check MD DNR’s next report and NOAA’s marine forecast before committing to a run.
🟨 Inland Bays Confidence: good. Indian River Inlet was the one spot in the bundle with a clear fish report: bluefish were caught on metal lures during incoming water, according to Old Inlet Bait and Tackle. That same report noted rain and 40-knot wind, so the action was real but narrow, and it favored anglers who were already on site and willing to fish the edge of bad weather. Rick’s Bait and Tackle had nothing additional to add.
For anglers looking at the inland side after the storm, this is the most concrete method note in the report: incoming water, metal lures, bluefish. The bite was not broad, but it was specific.
🟫 Rivers & Freshwater Confidence: limited reports this week. Freshwater reporting remained sparse. Patty at Captain Bones had no freshwater news, Steve at Smith Bait in Leipsic had none, and the only field note was an angler fishing the dam between the Broadkill River and Wagamons Pond without a reported catch. In the absence of better reporting, these waters look like a reset zone once the weather settles and runoff begins to normalize.
The USGS gauges add useful background. Brandywine Creek at Wilmington was running at 472 cfs, Murderkill River at Frederica was at 3190 cfs with 64.4°F water and a 4.81 ft gauge, and the Choptank at Greensboro showed 60 cfs with 63.3°F water and a 2.87 ft gauge. Those numbers do not create a bite by themselves, but they help frame where to look after the storm passes.
