⛈️ Delmarva Weather Update — 2026-05-26
Heads up: Dense Fog Advisory in effect for Cecil County until 8:00 AM EDT.
Today's Weather Story: A damp, gray start gives way to an unsettled day across Delmarva, with patchy fog this morning and shower chances ramping up from south to north. The lower Eastern Shore and Virginia barrier islands sit closest to the steadiest rain, while interior Delaware stays milder and drier under thicker cloud cover. Expect highs to cluster in the upper 60s to upper 70s with a light easterly flow off the Atlantic.
Across Delmarva:
- Lewes, DE: Patchy fog then mostly cloudy, high 71°F, wind E 5 mph
- Dover, DE: Patchy fog then mostly cloudy, high 77°F, wind E 5 mph
- Salisbury, MD: Chance of rain showers, high 75°F, wind NE 2–6 mph
- Ocean City, MD: Areas of fog then chance of rain showers, high 68°F, wind NE 3–7 mph
- Chincoteague, VA: Rain showers likely, high 68°F, wind NE 7 mph
Active Weather Alerts:
- Dense Fog Advisory — Cecil County, until 8:00 AM EDT today.
Severe Weather Outlook: SPC has Delmarva's coastal corridor — Cape Charles, Chincoteague, Lewes, Ocean City, and Salisbury — under a General Thunderstorms risk today, meaning storms are possible but organized severe weather is not expected. For Wednesday, SPC expands a Marginal Risk to include most of Delmarva, from Wilmington and Dover south through Salisbury, Chincoteague, and Cape Charles. WPC's national excessive rainfall guidance does not flag a specific Delmarva flood risk at this time, though heavy downpours within any individual storm remain possible.
Why This Setup: A stalled boundary draped near the region, working with an upper-level disturbance overhead, is squeezing out moisture and keeping shower and storm chances alive for a second straight day. That same boundary is why the atmosphere stays unsettled into Wednesday before drier air takes over.
Looking Ahead: Wednesday brings another round of showers and thunderstorms with the Marginal severe threat in play, then a noticeably drier and more seasonable pattern settles in to close the week and carry into the weekend.
Bottom Line: Plan for fog at sunrise, an umbrella through the day, and rumbles of thunder near the coast — but nothing today that should derail outdoor plans.
