š¤ļø Delmarva Afternoon Update ā Sunday, May 31, 2026
New Coastal Flood Statement issued for bay-side portions of the Maryland Eastern Shore tonight.
What's Changed Since This Morning: NWS Wakefield issued a Coastal Flood Statement at 1:34 PM EDT covering Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset counties for nuisance tidal flooding overnight. SPC outlooks are unchanged ā no organized severe risk on Day 1, with only general thunder potential flagged for Day 2 near Cape Charles, VA. Otherwise, sunshine has dominated the afternoon as advertised.
Current Severe Weather Picture: SPC has no categorical severe risk on Day 1 anywhere over Delmarva. For Day 2 (Monday), a General Thunderstorms area extends into the southern tip of the peninsula including Cape Charles, VA ā non-severe, but worth a glance if you're headed to the Eastern Shore of Virginia tomorrow. No severe watches or warnings are in effect.
Active Watches & Warnings: ⢠Coastal Flood Statement ā Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset (MD) ā in effect 1:00 AM to 7:00 AM Monday. Minor tidal flooding expected along bay-side shorelines.
Through Tonight: A weak cold front slides through tonight into early Monday morning, with mostly clear skies before the front. Bay-side communities on the Maryland Eastern Shore should watch for minor tidal overwash around the early morning high tide window.
Highs today landed right where expected ā mid-70s inland (Salisbury 76°F, Wilmington 75°F, Cambridge 75°F) with cooler readings at the immediate coast thanks to onshore flow (Ocean City 66°F, Lewes 70°F). Winds stay light through the evening.
Looking ahead, southeastern Delmarva has a chance for showers and a few storms Monday as the front clears. Temperatures stay below average into midweek before a warmer, summer-style pattern builds in for next weekend.
Bottom Line: Quiet evening ahead ā just watch for minor bay-side tidal flooding overnight in Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset counties.
