🌤️ Delmarva Afternoon Update — Saturday, June 6, 2026

SPC has upgraded northern Delmarva to a Slight Risk for severe storms ahead of this evening's cold front.

What's Changed Since This Morning: The big shift is from SPC: Day 1 now peaks at Slight Risk over Wilmington, with Dover and Lewes bumped up from general thunder to Marginal Risk. Chincoteague trended the other way, downgraded to General Thunderstorms. For Day 2, the Lower Shore — Salisbury, Ocean City, and Chincoteague — has been pulled back to General Thunderstorms, leaving Cape Charles holding a Marginal. The Mount Holly AFD now explicitly flags the I-95 corridor and points north for the Slight Risk as the front sweeps through this evening.

Current Severe Weather Picture: The greatest severe threat sits across northern Delaware, where damaging wind gusts and isolated hail are the primary concerns once storms fire along and ahead of the front. Central and southern Delmarva fall under a Marginal Risk or general thunder, meaning a few stronger cells are possible but the organized severe threat is lower. An Increased Fire Danger Statement is in effect for portions of northeast North Carolina through 8 PM, driven by dry air and gusty southwest winds — a reminder that fuels remain primed even here.

Active Watches & Warnings:

  • No active Delmarva watches or warnings at this time.

Through Tonight: Highs top out in the low 90s inland (Georgetown 94°F, Dover 93°F, Salisbury 92°F) with cooler readings at the beaches (Ocean City 81°F, Chincoteague 82°F) under a southwest breeze. Scattered showers and thunderstorms arrive this evening with the front, strongest north, then taper overnight as drier air filters in behind it.

Bottom Line: Keep an eye to the sky north of the C&D Canal this evening — that's where the Slight Risk lives.
