🌤️ Delmarva Afternoon Update — Wednesday, June 10, 2026
Heads up: New Castle County is now under a Heat Advisory starting tomorrow morning, and SPC has nudged the Day 2 severe outlook a notch lower for parts of the lower shore.
What's Changed Since This Morning: NWS Mount Holly issued a Heat Advisory for New Castle County, in effect from 11 AM Thursday through 8 PM Friday — that's the headline change this afternoon. On the severe weather side, SPC's Day 2 outlook was trimmed: Cape Charles, Chincoteague, and Ocean City all shifted from Slight Risk back to Marginal Risk for Thursday. Day 1 wording holds steady, with scattered storms still possible through early evening.
Current Severe Weather Picture: SPC keeps the entire Delmarva under a Marginal Risk for Day 1, covering Wilmington, Dover, Lewes, Salisbury, Ocean City, and Chincoteague. For Thursday, a Slight Risk remains anchored over Wilmington, Dover, Lewes, and Salisbury, while the southern beaches step down to Marginal. WPC continues to flag excessive rainfall and localized flooding as a concern with any slow-moving cell.
Active Watches & Warnings:
- Heat Advisory — New Castle County, DE. In effect 11 AM Thursday through 8 PM Friday (NWS Mount Holly).
Through Tonight: Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms into the early evening, with highs already in the mid 80s inland and cooler 75–77°F readings holding at Ocean City and Chincoteague thanks to a 16–17 mph south wind off the water. Storms taper after sunset, leaving a muggy overnight ahead of a much hotter Thursday.
Bottom Line: Watch the sky for an isolated strong storm this evening, then pivot your attention to dangerous heat and humidity building Thursday into Friday.
