🌤️ Delmarva Afternoon Update — Sunday, June 14, 2026

Heads up: A second Coastal Flood Statement has been added for Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset counties this afternoon.

What's Changed Since This Morning: NWS Wakefield issued a new Coastal Flood Statement at 2:32 PM for the lower Eastern Shore of Maryland, joining the earlier Coastal Flood Advisory for Kent, Inland Sussex, and the Delaware Beaches. The Slight Risk for severe storms remains in place across the entire peninsula, and the latest AFD reinforces that scattered severe thunderstorms are likely this evening. Bottom line on the deltas: tide concerns broadened south, severe threat unchanged but imminent.

Current Severe Weather Picture: SPC keeps Delmarva under a Slight Risk for Day 1, with Wilmington, Dover, Lewes, Salisbury, Ocean City, Chincoteague, and Cape Charles all in play later this afternoon into the evening. Damaging wind gusts and isolated hail are the primary concerns as storms develop along and ahead of an approaching boundary. Day 2 shows no organized convective risk.

Active Watches & Warnings:

  • Coastal Flood Advisory — Kent, Inland Sussex, Delaware Beaches — until 1:00 AM Monday (Minor)
  • Coastal Flood Statement — Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset — 11:00 PM tonight through 8:00 AM Monday (Minor)

Through Tonight: Expect scattered severe storms to fire this evening with the best window from late afternoon into the overnight, then minor tidal flooding around the evening and overnight high tide cycles along the Atlantic coast, Delaware Bay, and lower Chesapeake tributaries. Highs today still topped out near 92°F inland with cooler 80°F readings at Ocean City and Chincoteague thanks to the south wind off the water.

Bottom Line: Have a way to receive warnings tonight and avoid parking in flood-prone tidal areas at high tide.
