🌤️ Delmarva Weather Update — Tuesday, June 23, 2026

Today's Weather Story: Low pressure tracking near the region keeps Delmarva under an unsettled regime, with rounds of showers and thunderstorms firing through the day. Highs cluster in the upper 70s, though sea breezes hold Lewes in the 60s while inland Salisbury climbs into the low 80s. Winds shift to the northwest behind passing cells, and a tropical feel to the airmass means heavy downpours are the main concern — particularly across the lower Shore.

Across Delmarva:

  • Wilmington, DE: Showers and thunderstorms, high 75°F, NW 5–15 mph
  • Dover, DE: Showers and thunderstorms, high 78°F, N 5–15 mph
  • Georgetown, DE: Showers and thunderstorms, high 81°F, N 0–15 mph
  • Lewes, DE: Chance showers and thunderstorms, high 69°F, SW 5 mph
  • Cambridge, MD: Chance showers and thunderstorms, high 80°F, NW 3–13 mph
  • Salisbury, MD: Chance showers and thunderstorms, high 83°F, W 3–9 mph
  • Ocean City, MD: Chance showers and thunderstorms, high 77°F, S 6–9 mph
  • Chincoteague, VA: Chance showers and thunderstorms, high 80°F, SW 6–10 mph

Active Weather Alerts: No active Delmarva alerts at this time.

Severe Weather Outlook: SPC has placed a Slight Risk over the southern reaches of Delmarva, including Ocean City, Chincoteague, and Cape Charles. Scattered strong to severe storms are possible this afternoon and evening, with damaging wind gusts the primary hazard. WPC's excessive rainfall outlook also applies here — slow-moving cells riding atop a moisture-rich airmass raise the threat of localized flash flooding, especially in poor-drainage and tidal areas.

Why This Setup: A nearby low and an approaching cold front are interacting with a stalled boundary draped across the Mid-Atlantic, giving storms repeated triggers and plenty of tropical moisture to work with. An upper-level disturbance overhead enhances lift, which is why downpours could overperform on rainfall totals.

Looking Ahead: Storm chances linger into Wednesday before a more summer-like pattern takes over heading into the weekend. Another cold front later in the week reopens the door for showers and storms.

Bottom Line: Plan around the storms — keep an umbrella and a weather radio handy, especially south of Salisbury where the severe and flash flood risk is highest.
