⛈️ Delmarva Weather Update — Sunday, July 5, 2026

Heat Advisory in effect until 8 PM for most of Delmarva; Flood Watch in effect for New Castle, Sussex, Somerset, and Northampton counties through 8 PM Monday.

Today's Weather Story: A hot, humid air mass sits over Delmarva ahead of an approaching cold front, with heat indices climbing near 105°F this afternoon. Southerly flow keeps the moisture pumping in, and by late afternoon into evening, showers and thunderstorms fire along the boundary. Storms could turn strong to severe, with damaging winds and locally heavy rain the main concerns.

Across Delmarva:

  • Wilmington, DE: Partly sunny, PM showers/storms possible, high 92°F, wind S 0–5 mph
  • Dover, DE: Mostly sunny, PM showers/storms possible, high 92°F, wind SE 0–10 mph
  • Georgetown, DE: Mostly sunny, slight chance PM storms, high 94°F, wind SE 0–10 mph
  • Lewes, DE: Mostly sunny, slight chance PM storms, high 87°F, wind SE 5–10 mph
  • Cambridge, MD: Sunny, slight chance PM storms, high 94°F, wind SW 2–9 mph
  • Salisbury, MD: Mostly sunny, slight chance PM storms, high 96°F, wind S 3–10 mph
  • Ocean City, MD: Mostly sunny, high 82°F, wind SE 5–13 mph
  • Chincoteague, VA: Sunny, high 85°F, wind S 5–14 mph

Active Weather Alerts:

  • Heat Advisory — New Castle, Kent, Inland Sussex, Delaware Beaches, and Queen Anne's — until 8 PM today
  • Heat Advisory — Cecil County — until 8 PM today
  • Heat Advisory — Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, Inland Worcester, Caroline, and Northampton — until 8 PM today
  • Flood Watch — New Castle, Sussex, Somerset, and Northampton — until 8 PM Monday

Severe Weather Outlook: The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Delmarva — including Wilmington, Dover, Lewes, Salisbury, Ocean City, and Chincoteague — under a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms today. Damaging winds are the primary threat, with locally heavy rainfall also possible where storms train over the same areas. Monday drops to a General Thunderstorms Risk, but flash flood potential increases.

Why This Setup: An approaching cold front interacting with a stalled boundary and an upper-level disturbance is the trigger — plenty of moisture, plenty of instability, and a focus for storms to develop. That same setup keeps rounds of rain in play into Monday.

Looking Ahead: Additional rounds of storms are likely Monday, with the flash flood threat ramping up as ground saturates. Temperatures ease closer to seasonal norms by early next week, though unsettled weather sticks around midweek.

Bottom Line: Hydrate and limit afternoon exertion, then keep an eye to the sky — strong storms and downpours are on the table late today.
