⛈️ Delmarva Weather Update — Monday, July 6, 2026

Flood Watch in effect for New Castle, Sussex, Somerset, and Northampton counties through 8 PM tonight; Cecil County joins from 4 PM through midnight.

Today's Weather Story: A moisture-loaded airmass sits over Delmarva with a stalled boundary nearby and an upper-level disturbance rounding through. That's the recipe for slow-moving showers and thunderstorms firing through the afternoon and evening, with locally heavy downpours the main concern. Highs cluster in the mid 80s, though the Maryland shore pushes closer to 90°F where sun breaks through longer.

Across Delmarva:

  • Wilmington, DE: Showers and thunderstorms, high 83°F, NE 5 mph
  • Dover, DE: Showers and thunderstorms, high 84°F, E 5 mph
  • Georgetown, DE: Showers and thunderstorms, high 87°F, E 5 mph
  • Lewes, DE: Showers and thunderstorms, high 85°F, E 5 to 10 mph
  • Cambridge, MD: Showers and thunderstorms likely, high 89°F, N 2 to 7 mph
  • Salisbury, MD: Chance showers and thunderstorms, high 90°F, S 3 to 7 mph
  • Ocean City, MD: Chance showers and thunderstorms, high 80°F, S 8 mph
  • Chincoteague, VA: Chance showers and thunderstorms, high 83°F, S 6 to 9 mph

Active Weather Alerts:

  • Flood Watch — New Castle, Sussex, Somerset, and Northampton counties until 8:00 PM EDT today
  • Flood Watch — Cecil County from 4:00 PM EDT today until 12:00 AM EDT Tuesday

Severe Weather Outlook: SPC has a Marginal Risk over the southern end of the peninsula today, including Salisbury and Cape Charles, with a similar Marginal Risk continuing into Tuesday around Cape Charles. The primary threat is isolated strong storms with gusty winds inside the broader rain picture. WPC guidance doesn't flag a Delmarva-specific excessive rainfall zone, but the slow storm motions still argue for localized flash flooding — which is exactly why the Flood Watches are up.

Why This Setup: An approaching cold front and a stalled boundary are parked close enough to keep low-level moisture and lift in play, while an upper disturbance nudges storms along at a crawl. When storms don't move, rain totals stack up fast — especially in urban and poor-drainage spots.

Looking Ahead: Rain chances taper Tuesday as high pressure noses in, with Wednesday looking noticeably drier. Shower and storm chances return Thursday and Friday with near-normal temperatures.

Bottom Line: Keep the umbrella handy, give yourself extra time on flood-prone roads, and don't drive through standing water this afternoon or evening.
