Today's Weather Story: This is the peak of the heat stretch, and it's a dangerous one. Full sunshine, a dry westerly wind, and highs pushing the century mark across most of Delmarva will make outdoor exertion risky. A cold front slides through late this afternoon into tonight — it won't spark much here, but it will drag Canadian wildfire smoke into our skies starting tonight.

Severe Weather Outlook: SPC has Delmarva in a General Thunderstorms area today (Dover and Wilmington specifically flagged) — no categorical severe risk. WPC does not identify a Delmarva-specific excessive rainfall threat; heavy-rain signals today are elsewhere. Any storms with the late-day frontal passage should be isolated to scattered at most.
Why This Setup: A hot dome is being nudged east by an approaching cold front, and while the front itself lacks moisture here, an upper-level disturbance riding along it opens the door to a stray afternoon storm and then funnels Canadian wildfire smoke southward behind it.
Looking Ahead: Thursday cools slightly but stays hot with smoke aloft dimming the sun and degrading air quality. The weekend turns unsettled with rounds of showers and thunderstorms, a few possibly severe with heavy rain.
