🥵 Delmarva Weather Update — Thursday, August 6, 2026

Heat Advisory for New Castle and Somerset counties through August 8 at 8 PM EDT.

Today's Weather Story: Most of Delmarva trends sunny and dry after any early patchy fog, with southwest to south winds and highs from the mid-80s at the coast to 91°F inland. Wilmington is the exception, with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible this afternoon; rain chances elsewhere are just 1–3%. Heat and humidity remain the larger regional concern, especially where the Heat Advisory is in effect.

Across Delmarva:

  • Wilmington, DE: Patchy fog, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms; high 91°F; south winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • Dover, DE: Patchy fog, then sunny; high 91°F; southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • Georgetown, DE: Patchy fog, then sunny; high 91°F; southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • Lewes, DE: Sunny; high 90°F; southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • Cambridge, MD: Sunny; high 89°F; south winds 8 to 12 mph.
  • Salisbury, MD: Sunny; high 90°F; southwest winds 7 to 12 mph.
  • Ocean City, MD: Sunny; high 84°F; south winds 9 to 15 mph.
  • Chincoteague, VA: Sunny; high 84°F; south winds 9 to 15 mph.

Active Weather Alerts:

  • Heat Advisory for New Castle and Somerset counties, in effect until August 8 at 8 PM EDT.

Severe Weather Outlook: SPC places Wilmington, Delaware, in a Marginal Risk for severe weather today. That risk aligns with the isolated storm chance there, while most other sampled Delmarva locations remain predominantly sunny with very low rain chances. WPC does not indicate a Delmarva-specific excessive rainfall risk.

Why This Setup: Warm, humid air and southwest flow are holding over the region while an approaching cold front and upper-level disturbance provide enough lift for a few showers or storms, mainly toward northern Delmarva. The stronger sun and light-to-moderate south winds will keep temperatures elevated away from the beaches.

Looking Ahead: Hot and very humid conditions continue into the next couple of days, with daily shower and thunderstorm chances through Saturday. Coastal communities should remain cooler than inland areas during the afternoon.

Bottom Line: Plan for a hot, mostly sunny Thursday across Delmarva, with the best chance for an isolated storm around Wilmington.
