Heat Advisory for New Castle and Somerset Counties until August 8 at 8:00 PM EDT.

Today's Weather Story: A hot, humid, and predominantly sunny Friday is ahead across most of Delmarva, with highs reaching 91–92°F inland and middle 80s at the coast. Patchy morning fog is possible around Wilmington, Dover, and Lewes before sunshine takes over. A small chance for showers and thunderstorms is focused farther north near Wilmington and across the Cambridge area, while most of the lower shore remains dry.

Active Weather Alerts:

  • Heat Advisory for New Castle and Somerset Counties until August 8 at 8:00 PM EDT.

Severe Weather Outlook: The Storm Prediction Center places Wilmington in a Slight Risk for severe weather today. The more widespread forecast across Delmarva remains mainly sunny and mostly dry, but the shower and thunderstorm chances near Wilmington and Cambridge deserve attention if storms develop. WPC does not indicate a Delmarva-specific excessive rainfall risk.

Why This Setup: Southwest winds are maintaining the hot and humid air mass, while an approaching cold front and upper-level disturbance provide a limited trigger for scattered late-day storms. Tropical moisture remains part of the broader pattern, but today’s rain chances are not uniform from north to south.

Looking Ahead: Daily chances for showers and thunderstorms continue through Saturday and into Sunday, while heat and humidity persist through the weekend. The coastal communities stay relatively cooler than inland areas, though still sunny and warm.

Bottom Line: Expect a hot, mostly sunny day for most of Delmarva, with the best chance for a shower or thunderstorm near Wilmington and Cambridge.
