🌤️ Delmarva Afternoon Update — Tuesday, August 11, 2026

What's Changed Since This Morning: No meaningful change in the severe-weather outlook since this morning: SPC continues a Marginal Risk across Delmarva, and the coastal flood advisories remain in effect for portions of Delaware. The latest forecast still supports isolated to scattered late-day showers and thunderstorms, with the best point rain chance at Wilmington.

Current Severe Weather Picture: SPC maintains a Marginal Risk for Cape Charles and Chincoteague, Virginia; Ocean City and Salisbury, Maryland; and Wilmington, Dover, and Lewes, Delaware. That means a few storms could become strong to severe, but storm coverage is not expected to be widespread based on the point forecasts. Wilmington has a 32% chance of showers and thunderstorms, while Cambridge is at 20%; Dover, Georgetown, Lewes, Salisbury, Ocean City, and Chincoteague are mostly dry overall with 18–19% chances. Wednesday remains under a General Thunderstorms Risk for the same sampled areas.

Active Watches & Warnings:

  • Coastal Flood Advisory for Kent, Inland Sussex, and Delaware Beaches from 6 PM Tuesday until 12 AM Wednesday for minor tidal flooding.
  • Coastal Flood Advisory for New Castle from 9 PM Tuesday until 2 AM Wednesday for minor tidal flooding.

Through Tonight: Highs range from 82°F in Ocean City to 90°F at Dover, Georgetown, and Lewes, with west to southwest winds around 5–8 mph. A shower or thunderstorm remains possible late today into tonight, especially around Wilmington and locally elsewhere, but most locations should not see persistent rain. The coastal flood advisories concern evening high-tide tidal flooding along the Delaware coast and tidal areas, not rainfall flooding.

Bottom Line: Keep an eye on the sky for an isolated to scattered late-day storm, while Delaware’s more immediate concern is minor tidal flooding around this evening’s high tide.
