⛈️ Delmarva Weather Update — Tuesday, August 11, 2026

Coastal Flood Advisory: Kent, Inland Sussex, and Delaware Beaches through 12:00 AM Wednesday; New Castle through 2:00 AM Wednesday.

Today's Weather Story: Mostly sunny to partly sunny skies will carry much of Tuesday, with heat building into the upper 80s and lower 90s. Storm chances are highest across northern Delaware, where Wilmington has a chance of showers and thunderstorms; Dover has scattered storms possible. South through the Maryland and Virginia Eastern Shore, most locations stay mostly dry, with only a small late-day storm chance inland.

Across Delmarva:

  • Wilmington, DE: Mostly sunny, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms; high 89°F; west wind 5 mph.
  • Dover, DE: Mostly sunny, then scattered showers and thunderstorms possible; high 90°F; west wind 5 mph.
  • Georgetown, DE: Mostly sunny, then a small chance of showers and thunderstorms; high 91°F; west wind 0 to 10 mph.
  • Lewes, DE: Mostly sunny, then a small chance of showers and thunderstorms; high 90°F; northwest wind 5 mph.
  • Cambridge, MD: Slight chance of showers, then thunderstorms; high 90°F; west wind 8 mph.
  • Salisbury, MD: Partly sunny with a small chance of showers and thunderstorms; high 90°F; west wind 3 to 8 mph.
  • Ocean City, MD: Partly sunny and mostly dry; high 87°F; west wind 9 mph.
  • Chincoteague, VA: Partly sunny and mostly dry; high 87°F; west wind 9 mph.

Active Weather Alerts:

  • Coastal Flood Advisory for Kent, Inland Sussex, and Delaware Beaches from 6:00 PM Tuesday through 12:00 AM Wednesday.
  • Coastal Flood Advisory for New Castle from 9:00 PM Tuesday through 2:00 AM Wednesday.

Severe Weather Outlook: SPC has a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms across Wilmington, Dover, Lewes, Salisbury, Ocean City, Chincoteague, and Cape Charles. Storm coverage is not expected to be uniform across Delmarva, but any storm that develops late today into this evening could be strong. WPC does not indicate a Delmarva-specific excessive rainfall risk.

Why This Setup: A nearby boundary and an approaching cold front are supporting daily shower and thunderstorm chances, while warm, humid air remains in place. The better opportunity for storms is across northern Delaware, with drier air limiting coverage farther south and along the coast.

Looking Ahead: Daily shower and thunderstorm chances continue into the middle of the week. SPC lists a General Thunderstorms Risk across Delmarva for Wednesday, while minor tidal flooding remains possible during evening high tides.

Bottom Line: Expect a hot, mostly sunny day with the best chance for storms in northern Delaware and mainly dry conditions toward the lower Eastern Shore and coast.
