🌤️ Delmarva Weather Update — Wednesday, August 12, 2026

Coastal Flood Advisories are in effect this evening for parts of Delaware, including Kent, Inland Sussex, Delaware Beaches, and New Castle County.

Today's Weather Story: Most of Delmarva trends mostly sunny and warm today, with highs in the mid to upper 80s and light north to northwest winds. The best chance for a passing shower or thunderstorm is from southern Delaware through the lower Eastern Shore, while Wilmington, Dover, and Cambridge stay mostly dry. Humidity is a bit lower, but localized rain chances linger near the coast.

Across Delmarva:

  • Wilmington, DE: Mostly sunny, high near 88°F, north winds 0 to 5 mph.
  • Dover, DE: Mostly sunny, high near 87°F, north winds 0 to 5 mph.
  • Georgetown, DE: Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, then mostly sunny, high near 88°F, north winds 0 to 5 mph.
  • Lewes, DE: Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, then mostly sunny, high near 86°F, north wind around 5 mph.
  • Cambridge, MD: Slight chance of rain showers, high near 87°F, northwest wind around 7 mph.
  • Salisbury, MD: Chance of rain showers, then slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, high near 88°F, northwest wind around 6 mph.
  • Ocean City, MD: Chance of rain showers, then slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, high near 85°F, north wind around 7 mph.
  • Chincoteague, VA: Chance of rain showers, then slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, high near 83°F, north wind around 8 mph.

Active Weather Alerts:

  • Coastal Flood Advisory for Kent, Inland Sussex, and Delaware Beaches from 7 PM Wednesday until 1 AM Thursday.
  • Coastal Flood Advisory for New Castle County from 10 PM Wednesday until 2 AM Thursday.

Severe Weather Outlook: SPC places Wilmington in a Marginal Risk for severe weather today. Elsewhere, rain and storm chances remain isolated to scattered, highest toward the coast and lower Eastern Shore. WPC indicates a possible excessive-rainfall and flooding concern for Delmarva, but today’s point forecasts favor generally low rain chances across much of the region.

Why This Setup: An approaching cold front, nearby low pressure, and an upper-level disturbance are keeping a weak shower-and-storm signal in place. However, drier air is limiting coverage for many inland locations, with the coast holding the better rain chance.

Looking Ahead: Additional rounds of showers and storms are possible through Friday, with the highest chances Friday afternoon into Friday night as a cold front approaches. Cooler, drier weather follows for the weekend.

Bottom Line: Plan on a mostly dry, warm Wednesday for much of Delmarva, but keep an eye on the sky near the coast and allow extra caution around evening high tides in Delaware.
