⛈️ Delmarva Weather Update — Sunday, August 16, 2026

Today's Weather Story: Showers and thunderstorms are likely across northern Delaware today, while chances become more scattered farther south through the Maryland and Virginia Eastern Shore. Patchy fog early will give way to a warm, humid afternoon, with highs generally near 80°F to 83°F. A frontal system arriving later today and tonight will support more widespread late-day and evening showers and storms.

Across Delmarva:

  • Wilmington, DE: Showers and thunderstorms likely, high near 80°F, southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Dover, DE: Patchy fog early, then showers and thunderstorms likely, high near 82°F, south wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Georgetown, DE: Patchy fog early, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, high near 83°F, southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Lewes, DE: Patchy fog early, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, high near 81°F, south wind 5 to 15 mph.
  • Cambridge, MD: Mostly cloudy, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, high near 82°F, south wind 5 to 13 mph.
  • Salisbury, MD: Partly sunny, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, high near 83°F, southeast wind 2 to 12 mph.
  • Ocean City, MD: Partly sunny, then a chance of rain showers, high near 80°F, southeast wind 6 to 15 mph.
  • Chincoteague, VA: Partly sunny, then a chance of rain showers, high near 82°F, southeast wind 5 to 16 mph.

Active Weather Alerts: No active Delmarva alerts at this time.

Severe Weather Outlook: SPC has a Slight Risk for severe weather covering Cape Charles, Chincoteague, and Salisbury today. WPC also signals a possible excessive-rainfall and flooding concern for Delmarva, while NWS discussions note localized flash flooding may accompany the more widespread showers and storms later today and tonight.

Why This Setup: An approaching frontal system and nearby low-pressure track are pulling in moisture, while a stalled boundary and upper-level disturbance help showers and thunderstorms organize. That combination favors a wetter, more unsettled finish to the day than the morning conditions suggest.

Looking Ahead: Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms remain possible Monday as a trailing upper-level disturbance and weak cold front move through. The air stays hot and humid Monday ahead of the next front.

Bottom Line: Plan for storms, especially later today, with the greatest rain coverage in northern Delaware and severe-weather concern focused from Salisbury south toward the Virginia Eastern Shore.
