⛈️ Delmarva Weather Update — Friday, August 28, 2026

Today's Weather Story: A cold front moving through Friday will bring an uneven shower and thunderstorm setup across Delmarva. Northern areas have a smaller storm chance, while rain and storms are more likely from Sussex County through the lower Eastern Shore and coastal Maryland. Highs generally reach the low to mid-80s, with light winds and patchy morning fog near Ocean City.

Across Delmarva:

  • Wilmington, DE: Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, high 84°F, NW winds 0 to 5 mph.
  • Dover, DE: Scattered showers and thunderstorms possible, high 85°F, N winds 0 to 5 mph.
  • Georgetown, DE: Showers and thunderstorms likely, high 85°F, NE winds 0 to 5 mph.
  • Lewes, DE: Showers and thunderstorms likely, high 84°F, E winds 0 to 5 mph.
  • Cambridge, MD: Scattered showers and thunderstorms possible, high 84°F, NW winds around 5 mph.
  • Salisbury, MD: Showers and thunderstorms likely, high 86°F, SW winds 1 to 5 mph.
  • Ocean City, MD: Patchy fog early, then showers and thunderstorms likely, high 81°F, S winds 3 to 7 mph.
  • Chincoteague, VA: Chance of showers and thunderstorms, high 83°F, SW winds around 6 mph.

Active Weather Alerts: No active Delmarva alerts at this time.

Severe Weather Outlook: The SPC places Cape Charles, Chincoteague, Dover, Lewes, Ocean City, and Salisbury in a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms Friday. That means a few storms could become strong in those areas, especially where the more persistent showers and storms develop. WPC does not identify a Delmarva-specific excessive rainfall risk.

Why This Setup: A cold front crossing the region is meeting humid air and an onshore flow near the coast, providing the lift needed for showers and thunderstorms. The better rain coverage is expected south and east of Wilmington, while northern Delmarva has lower storm odds.

Looking Ahead: Unsettled conditions continue into Saturday with additional showers and thunderstorms possible. Heat and humidity begin building back early next week, with hotter conditions expected into the middle of the week.

Bottom Line: Plan for a mostly dry-to-scattered-storm day north and a wetter, storm-prone afternoon from Sussex County through the lower Eastern Shore and coast.
