🌊 Delmarva Afternoon Update — Thursday, September 24, 2026

New Coastal Flood Warnings are now in effect for parts of Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Virginia’s Eastern Shore, adding to the ongoing coastal hazards in Delaware.

What's Changed Since This Morning: The main afternoon change is the expansion of Coastal Flood Warnings to Accomack and Northampton counties in Virginia, Inland Worcester County, and Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset counties in Maryland. No organized SPC severe-thunderstorm risk has developed across sampled Delmarva points. The concern remains coastal: significant tidal flooding, dangerous surf, and strong northeast winds.

Current Severe Weather Picture: SPC Day 1 and Day 2 continue to show no organized convective risk over Delmarva. Rain remains limited today, with Wilmington through Salisbury generally dry and Ocean City and Chincoteague carrying only a slight shower chance of 19–21%. Coastal flooding is tidal flooding, driven by the coastal system and persistent onshore flow—not widespread rainfall.

Through Tonight: Clouds hold firm with temperatures near 68–69°F and northeast winds strongest along the coast, including 25–30 mph in Lewes and near 30 mph at Ocean City and Chincoteague. Most inland locations stay dry; isolated showers remain possible near the southern and ocean-facing coast.

Bottom Line: The weather story is coastal flooding, rough surf, and strong northeast winds—not thunderstorms or widespread rain.
