🌊 Delmarva Afternoon Update — Sunday, September 27, 2026
New coastal flood and beach hazard alerts are now in effect across parts of Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Virginia’s Eastern Shore, while Delaware coastal alerts continue.
What's Changed Since This Morning: The main afternoon change is the addition of coastal flood and beach hazard products for Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, Accomack, and Northampton counties. Coastal Flood Warnings remain in place for Delaware Beaches and Inland Sussex through 2 PM Monday. SPC continues to show no organized convective risk over the sampled Delmarva points today or Monday.
Current Severe Weather Picture: There is no SPC Day 1 or Day 2 organized severe-weather risk across Delmarva. This is a rain-and-coastal-impact setup rather than a severe thunderstorm setup. The nor’easter remains nearby, with lingering light rain especially across lower Maryland, while dangerous surf and rip currents remain a concern at Delaware Beaches.
Active Watches & Warnings:
- High Surf Advisory and Rip Current Statement: Delaware Beaches until 8 PM Sunday.
- Coastal Flood Warning: Delaware Beaches and Inland Sussex until 2 PM Monday. This is tidal flooding.
- Beach Hazards Statement: Maryland Beaches, Eastern Currituck, and Virginia Beach until 8 PM Sunday.

Through Tonight: Rain showers remain likely across Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore, with rain chances around 61–68% from Wilmington and Dover through Salisbury and Ocean City. Chincoteague is less certain, with a 42% chance of showers. Winds stay brisk from the west to northwest, including 20 mph at Lewes.
Bottom Line: Expect a damp, breezy evening, but the most significant impacts remain tidal flooding and dangerous beach conditions along the coast.
