🌱 US Weather Warriors GrowCast — Saturday, June 27, 2026

Wet, unsettled pattern with elevated thunderstorm risk and excessive rainfall potential across the peninsula today.

Today's Weather Snapshot: Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, lows near 69-75°F. Rain chances run 45-83%, highest in northern Delaware. Winds light, 5-10 mph. Humidity is high — DEOS stations reporting RH near 95-100%.

Soil & Recent Rainfall: Two-inch soil temps averaging 75°F (range 73-78°F) across six DEOS stations. 24-hour rainfall up to 0.18 inch, with three of six stations reporting measurable rain. Topsoils carrying moisture heading into another wet day.

Best Outdoor Work Window: Skip heavy field or garden work today. Early morning is the only realistic window before storms develop — aim for Sunday or Monday morning once the rain trend eases.

Planting & Transplanting: Soil temps are well above the 60-65°F threshold for warm-season transplants, but saturated ground and storm risk argue for delay. Hold tomatoes, peppers, squash, and tender bedding plants until soils drain and the rain pattern breaks.

Watering & Irrigation: Hold off on irrigation. Soils are already moist from overnight rain, and additional rainfall is likely through the day. Reassess Monday based on what falls.

For Gardeners: Use today for indoor seed-starting, tool maintenance, or trellis prep. If you must be outside, scout for early blight, downy mildew, and slug pressure — humidity near 100% favors all three. Hold off on foliar sprays; wash-off risk is high.

For Farmers & Growers: Field access will be Poor through the day with excessive rainfall guidance in play. Spray windows are closed — wind is fine but rain timing and leaf wetness will compromise efficacy. Defer hay cutting; standing crops and pasture access should be reassessed once skies clear.

Looking Ahead (6-10 day signal): CPC 6-10 day leans above normal for both temperature and precipitation; no drought across DE, MD, or VA.

Bottom Line: A washout-leaning Saturday — stand down on fieldwork, planting, and irrigation, and wait for the pattern to dry.
