🌱 US Weather Warriors GrowCast — Sunday, June 28, 2026

Wet ground, a Flood Watch, and scattered thunderstorms make today a short-window day across Delmarva.

Today's Weather Snapshot: Lows in the upper 60s to near 71°F, highs from the mid-70s at the coast to mid-80s inland. Unsettled with thunderstorms possible; PoP runs highest from Salisbury south, peaking near 57%. Winds manageable, generally 5-13 mph. Dewpoints high and humidity oppressive — RH at mesonet sites sits in the mid-90s to near 100%.

Soil & Recent Rainfall: Two-inch soil temps average 74.7°F across six DEOS stations, ranging 72.9-77.8°F. 24-hour rainfall topped out at 1.79 inches; DGES and DLAU reporting wet topsoil. Soils are saturated to wet across much of the region.

Best Outdoor Work Window: Early morning before storms develop is the only reliable window — aim for before 10 AM, especially south of the C&D Canal. If you can wait, Monday morning will likely offer firmer footing in spots that drained overnight.

Planting & Transplanting: Soils are plenty warm — 2-inch temps well above the 60-65°F threshold for tomato, pepper, squash, and other warm-season transplants. But the planting window is Delay: ground is too wet to set transplants cleanly, and a hard storm could wash in new seedings. Hold tender transplants until soils drain.

Watering & Irrigation: Skip irrigation today and tomorrow. With up to 1.79 inches in the last 24 hours, a Flood Watch active, and more storms in the forecast, soils don't need help. Reassess midweek.

For Gardeners: Stay out of saturated beds — walking wet soil compacts it for the season. Scout tomatoes and cucurbits for early blight, septoria, and downy mildew; humidity near 100% is ideal for foliar disease. If you have ripe berries, lettuce, or herbs, harvest between cells before storms move through.

For Farmers & Growers: Field workability is Poor — hay cutting is a non-starter with this rain trend and dewpoint profile. Spray windows are unworkable today given thunderstorm risk and saturated ground; wait for a drier stretch. Use the day for equipment maintenance, scouting, and planning for the next workable window.

Looking Ahead (6-10 day signal): CPC 6-10 day leans above normal for both temperature and precipitation; Drought Monitor shows no drought across DE, MD, or VA.

Bottom Line: Stay out of the mud, watch the sky, and let the ground dry before you plant or spray.
