🌱 US Weather Warriors GrowCast — Monday, June 29, 2026

Hot, humid, and unsettled across Delmarva today with thunderstorm potential and an Extreme Heat Watch flagged to our north.

Today's Weather Snapshot: Highs near 85-87°F inland, low 80s along the coast, with overnight lows around 63-71°F. Dewpoints are high — morning RH near saturation at most stations. Winds generally 10-15 mph, strongest near the beaches. Thunderstorm chances are elevated even as point PoPs read low.

Soil & Recent Rainfall: DEOS 2-inch soil temps ran 70-76°F across six stations, averaging 73°F. Past 24-hour rainfall stayed light, topping out at 0.07 inch. Topsoil is neither flagged wet nor dry, but humidity and incoming rain trend argue for caution.

Best Outdoor Work Window: Work early — before 11 AM — to beat both the heat build and afternoon storm potential. Reassess Tuesday morning once the storm threat clears.

Planting & Transplanting: Soil temps are well above the 60-65°F warm-season threshold, so the ground is ready — but planting and tender transplants should be delayed until the unsettled pattern moves through.

Watering & Irrigation: Hold off on irrigation. Rainfall was light in the last 24 hours, but heavy or excessive rainfall guidance and elevated storm risk mean soils will likely catch up on their own.

For Gardeners: Get harvest done early — pick squash, cucumbers, and beans before the afternoon heat and storm window. Stake or tie up tall tomatoes and peppers ahead of gusty storm outflow. Hold any new bedding plants in the shade until conditions settle.

For Farmers & Growers: Field workability is poor with storms expected; avoid committing to hay cutting today given the heavy rain signal. Spray windows are narrow and risky — gusty thunderstorm outflow can ruin drift control fast. Use the early morning for scouting and equipment prep rather than tillage or planting.

Looking Ahead (6-10 day signal): CPC 6-10 day leans near-normal temps and above-normal precipitation; Drought Monitor shows no drought across DE, MD, or VA.

Bottom Line: Hot, humid, and storm-prone — work early, skip irrigation, and delay planting until the pattern resets.
