🌱 US Weather Warriors GrowCast — Monday, July 6, 2026

Flood Watches and scattered thunderstorms will keep ground wet and fieldwork short across Delmarva today.

Today's Weather Snapshot: Highs run from the upper 70s at the beaches to near 89°F inland at Salisbury. Overnight lows held near 68°F, with a muggy start region-wide. Chances of showers and storms run 51-92%, highest along the Delaware coast at Lewes. Winds stay manageable, generally 5-10 mph. Dewpoints are tropical — station RH ran 93-100% overnight.

Soil & Recent Rainfall: DEOS 2-inch soil temps ranged 76-83°F, averaging 79.8°F across six stations. 24-hour rainfall topped out at 1.16 inches at DAGF, with DTBR and DSND also picking up 0.6-0.9 inches. Topsoils are wet at DTBR, DSND, and DAGF; no dry stations reporting.

Best Outdoor Work Window: Early morning is your only reliable window before storms redevelop this afternoon. If lightning fires early at your location, skip today and reassess Tuesday morning.

Planting & Transplanting: Soil temps are well above the 60-65°F threshold for warm-season transplants, but planting_window is Delay — saturated ground will smear, compact, and drown roots. Hold tomato, pepper, squash, and cucurbit sets until soils drain.

Watering & Irrigation: Skip irrigation today and likely tomorrow. With over an inch already down at some stations and more storms in the forecast, soils are recharged. Drought Monitor shows no drought across DE, MD, or VA.

For Gardeners: Scout tomatoes and cucurbits for early blight, downy mildew, and bacterial spot — the humidity and leaf wetness are prime for disease. Stake and tie anything top-heavy before the next storm rolls through. Harvest ripe squash, beans, and cucumbers ahead of storms to avoid split fruit.

For Farmers & Growers: Field workability is Poor and thunderstorm risk is Elevated — hay cutting is a non-starter, and sprays will wash off within the reentry window. Stay out of low ground; Flood Watches and a Flash Flood Warning are active. Use the downtime for equipment maintenance and scouting from the headlands.

Looking Ahead (6-10 day signal): CPC 6-10 day leans above normal for both temperature and precipitation — expect a warm, unsettled pattern to continue.

Bottom Line: Wet ground and storm chances shut down most fieldwork today; work early or wait for drier air later this week.
