Soil & Recent Rainfall: Two-inch soil temps averaged 78.7°F across six stations (range 76-81°F). Rainfall over the past 24 hours topped out at 0.57 inch at DTBR, with most stations picking up 0.15-0.24 inch. Topsoil is wet at DTBR; DAGF remains on the dry side.
Best Outdoor Work Window: Skip heavy fieldwork today. Best odds for a dry window are early morning across northern Delaware before storms redevelop. Watch for a better window later this week once the flood pattern clears.
Planting & Transplanting: Delay planting and hold tender transplants until the wet pattern breaks. Soil temps at 78°F are well above the 60-65°F threshold for tomato, pepper, and squash, so heat isn't the barrier — saturated ground is. Working wet soil will compact it and cost you all season.
Watering & Irrigation: Hold off on irrigation. Rainfall totals through today plus continued storm chances mean soils are already carrying enough moisture, and drought is absent region-wide.
