Wet ground and strong winds keep outdoor work limited across Delmarva today.
Today's Weather Snapshot: Delmarva temperatures range from 53°F to 71°F. Rain chances range from 14% to 30%. Winds run near 15 to 31 mph, strongest near the coast. Humidity is elevated, with DEOS readings near 76% to 88%. Coastal flood and wind headlines remain active.
Soil & Recent Rainfall: Two-inch soil temperatures range from 58.1°F to 67.5°F. DEOS stations measured 0.00 to 0.09 inches of rain in 24 hours. Ground conditions remain poor for traffic and fieldwork.
Best Outdoor Work Window: Skip today — wet ground and poor wind workability limit productive outdoor work.
Planting & Transplanting: Delay planting and tender transplants until the weather trend improves. Soil temperatures are warm enough for warm-season crops, but wind and poor soil workability are the limiting factors. Hold cool-season direct seeding despite soil temperatures exceeding the 45–50°F threshold.
Watering & Irrigation: Hold off on watering until the rain trend passes; soils may already be wet.
For Gardeners: Secure row covers, stakes, tomato cages, and containers before stronger winds. Avoid mowing, lawn renovation, and bed preparation where soil is soft. Use the downtime to harvest mature warm-season crops and inspect plants for wind damage.
For Farmers & Growers: Keep equipment off soft fields where possible to prevent compaction and rutting. Avoid spray applications in winds near 15 to 31 mph. Postpone planting and transplanting until soil access and wind conditions improve.
Looking Ahead (6-10 day signal): The 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures and near-normal precipitation, with no drought reported in Delaware, Maryland, or Virginia.
Bottom Line: Thursday is a hold day for planting, spraying, and field traffic due to wet ground and wind.
