Rain, wind, and wet soils sharply limit outdoor work across Delmarva today.
Today's Weather Snapshot: Delmarva temperatures range from 57°F to 71°F. Rain chances reach 60–98% across most locations. Winds run near 15–20 mph, with a Wind Advisory in effect. Thunderstorms are possible, and coastal flood headlines remain active.
Soil & Recent Rainfall: Two-inch soil temperatures range from 60.6°F to 66.4°F. Reporting stations received 0.85–1.20 inches in the past 24 hours. Topsoil is wet at all six reporting stations.
Best Outdoor Work Window: Skip today — try the next dry, lower-wind period after this rain trend passes.
Planting & Transplanting: Delay planting and tender transplants until the weather trend improves. Soils are warm enough for warm-season transplants at 60.6–66.4°F, but wet ground and wind make establishment unfavorable. Hold cool-season direct-seeding until soils can be worked without smearing.
Watering & Irrigation: Hold off on watering until the rain trend passes; soils may already be wet.
For Gardeners: Avoid digging, rototilling, mowing, or renovating wet beds and lawns today. Secure tomatoes, peppers, and flowering containers against 15–20 mph winds. Wait to seed lettuce, spinach, radish, or cool-season turf until the soil surface dries and crumbles.
For Farmers & Growers: Field access is poor after 0.85–1.20 inches of recent rain, and traffic can cause compaction and rutting. Wind and elevated thunderstorm risk make spraying unsuitable today. Delay hay cutting and other exposed field operations until a drier, lighter-wind window returns.
Looking Ahead (6-10 day signal): Near-normal temperatures are favored, with no drought reported in Delaware, Maryland, or Virginia.
Bottom Line: Treat Sunday as a stand-down day for planting, spraying, and soil work.
