🌱 US Weather Warriors GrowCast — Monday, September 28, 2026

Wet soils and active coastal flooding are keeping field access and planting on hold today.

Today's Weather Snapshot: Delmarva temperatures range from 57°F to 74°F. Highs stay moderate, with lows well above frost range. Coastal Flood Warning and Coastal Flood Advisories remain active. Winds run near 5 to 12 mph, generally manageable. Thunderstorm risk is low.

Soil & Recent Rainfall: Two-inch soil temperatures range from 62.2°F to 67.4°F. Reporting stations received 0.34 to 1.40 inches in 24 hours. Topsoil is wet at all six reporting stations.

Best Outdoor Work Window: Skip today — wet ground makes fieldwork and bed preparation a poor choice.

Planting & Transplanting: Delay planting and tender transplants until the weather trend improves. Soil temperatures are warm enough for warm-season transplants, but saturated topsoil is the limiting factor. Avoid working seedbeds for cool-season crops until soils drain and crumble.

Watering & Irrigation: Hold off on watering until the rain trend passes; soils may already be wet.

For Gardeners: Harvest mature tomatoes, peppers, squash, and beans without walking repeatedly through wet beds. Hold fall vegetable seeding until soil can be handled without smearing. Avoid lawn renovation or cool-season turf seeding while the ground remains wet.

For Farmers & Growers: Keep equipment out of wet fields to avoid compaction and rutting. Wind is workable for spraying, but wet ground and limited field access remain the main constraints. Delay hay cutting and other traffic-intensive work until fields firm up.

Looking Ahead (6-10 day signal): Near-normal temperatures and precipitation are favored, with no drought indicated in Delaware, Maryland, or Virginia.

Bottom Line: Today is a wait-and-drain day: protect soil structure and postpone planting, traffic, and irrigation.
