🌱 US Weather Warriors GrowCast — Saturday, October 3, 2026
Rain, wet soils, and thunderstorm potential make Saturday a poor fieldwork day across Delmarva.
Today's Weather Snapshot: Delmarva temperatures range from 58°F to 72°F. Rain chances run from 73% to 91% across forecast points. Thunderstorms are possible, with wet conditions likely. Winds range near 5 to 15 mph. Humidity is elevated, with DEOS readings up to 98%.
Soil & Recent Rainfall: Two-inch soil temperatures range from 66.6°F to 70.9°F. DEOS stations received up to 0.66 inches in the past 24 hours. Topsoil is wet at reporting stations DTBR and DDFS.
Best Outdoor Work Window: Skip today—rain, thunderstorms, wind, and wet soils limit safe, productive work.
Planting & Transplanting: Delay planting today despite 66.6°F to 70.9°F two-inch soil temperatures. Hold tender transplants until the weather trend improves.
Watering & Irrigation: Hold off on watering until the rain trend passes; soils may already be wet.
For Gardeners: Keep off saturated beds to avoid compaction and smearing soil structure. Hold cool-season seeding and fall transplanting until beds drain and become workable. Use the break to harvest mature produce and remove diseased plant material.
For Farmers & Growers: Avoid field traffic where soils are wet, especially on heavier ground. Rain and thunderstorm potential limit spray opportunities, while winds near 15 mph add drift concerns. Delay hay cutting and silage decisions until the rain pattern clears.
Looking Ahead (6-10 day signal): The 6-10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures and precipitation, with no drought indicated in Delaware, Maryland, or Virginia.
Bottom Line: Saturday is a stand-down day for planting, spraying, irrigation, and field traffic.
