🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — 2026-05-24

Small Craft Advisories are up along the Atlantic coast with high surf and rip currents on the beaches — a rough day to be outside the inlets.

Today on the Water: Small Craft Advisories cover the ocean waters from NJ down through the VA coast, running until 10 PM south of Fenwick and through 6 AM Monday up north. High Surf and Rip Current Statements are in effect for Delaware and Atlantic beaches through this evening. Patchy fog and showers in the mix, with thunderstorms possible over the Bay this afternoon.

Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): South winds building tonight to 10–15 kt with gusts to 20 kt. Seas climb to 4–5 ft, occasionally 7 ft, with a mixed E swell at 9 seconds and S wind chop at 6 seconds. Patchy fog and a chance of showers reducing visibility.

Delaware Bay: East winds 10–15 kt gusting 20 kt this morning, diminishing to 5–10 kt this afternoon. Seas 2–4 ft with an E swell at 8 seconds. Showers and patchy fog through the day.

Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: Southeast winds 5–10 kt, with an E 3 ft swell at 9 seconds rolling in. Patchy morning fog gives way to a chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms this afternoon.

Wind & Seas Outlook: Peak wind tonight on the Atlantic with S 10–15 kt gusting 20 kt. Highest seas hold into Monday at 4–5 ft offshore. Winds go light and variable mid-week.

Marine Alerts:

  • Small Craft Advisory — NJ coastal waters, until 6 AM Mon
  • Small Craft Advisory — Fenwick Island DE to VA/NC border, until 10 PM tonight
  • High Surf Advisory — DE & Atlantic Coastal beaches, until 8 AM
  • Rip Current Statement — DE & Atlantic Coastal beaches, until 8 PM
  • Beach Hazards Statement — MD, Eastern Currituck, Virginia Beach, Accomack, Northampton, until 8 PM

Best Window to be Out: Tuesday night looks like the real reset — light S winds around 5 kt and seas a foot or less on the Bay.

Worst Window: Tonight on the Atlantic — S winds gusting 20 kt, seas to 7 ft, fog and showers.

Bottom Line: If you're not in a big boat with a reason to go, keep it tied up today and wait for midweek.
