🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — 2026-05-29
Small Craft Advisories are up across the Atlantic coastal waters, Delaware Bay, and lower Chesapeake — keep small boats in today.
Today on the Water: SCAs are active for the Atlantic coastal waters and Delaware Bay through 4 PM EDT, and for the lower Chesapeake through 8 AM EDT. Expect a gusty north-northwest flow with choppy seas, easing later as high pressure builds in. Radar is quiescent across Delmarva — no convective cells within 50 nm.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): North winds 15–20 kt with gusts to 25 kt, seas 4–5 ft and occasionally to 7 ft. Short-period N swell at 4 seconds will make for a stacked, uncomfortable ride. Conditions ease overnight as winds back SE around 5 kt and seas drop to 2–3 ft.
Delaware Bay: NW winds 15–20 kt gusting 25 kt, seas 2–3 ft on a short 4-second period. Expect a sharp chop on the bay through the afternoon. Winds relax toward 5 kt by Sunday with seas flattening to a foot or less.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: N winds 15–20 kt with gusts to 25 kt and waves 3–4 ft, occasionally 5 ft, focused over the lower Bay early. SCA there drops at 8 AM and sub-SCA winds return through tonight under high pressure. NE 5 kt and flat water arrive Sunday.
Wind & Seas Outlook: Peak winds today with gusts to 25 kt; peak seas also today at 4–5 ft (to 7 ft) on the Atlantic. Sunday is the calm day. Additional SCAs likely return Monday with SW 10–15 kt and Atlantic seas building to 3–4 ft, occasionally 6 ft.
Marine Alerts:
- Small Craft Advisory — Atlantic coastal waters Great Egg Inlet to Cape Henlopen and south, until 4 PM EDT today
- Small Craft Advisory — Delaware Bay (both zones), until 4 PM EDT today
- Small Craft Advisory — Chesapeake Bay Smith Point to Little Creek, until 8 AM EDT today
Best Window to be Out: Sunday — NE 5 kt with flat water on the Chesapeake and 1 ft or less on Delaware Bay. Today is not the day unless you're on a big, capable boat.
Worst Window: This afternoon on the Atlantic with gusts to 25 kt and seas to 7 ft.
Bottom Line: Stay in today; Sunday is your launch window before winds rebuild Monday.
