🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — 2026-05-30
Small Craft Advisories blanket nearly every Delmarva water zone today behind a cold front — stay in port unless you've got the boat and experience for it.
Today on the Water: SCAs are active across the Atlantic coastal waters, Delaware Bay, and the full length of the Chesapeake. Northwest winds behind the front are gusting to 30 kt with building seas. Radar is quiet — no convective cells within 50 nm — but a few showers are possible later.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): N winds 15 to 20 kt, gusting to 25 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally 6 ft, on a short-period N swell with a touch of S crossing. No real workable window today inshore of the SCA line.
Delaware Bay: NW 15 to 20 kt with gusts to 30 kt, easing to N 10 to 15 kt with gusts to 20 kt late. Seas 2 to 3 ft on a steep 3-second NW chop — sloppy ride, especially against the tide.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: NW 10 to 15 kt with gusts to 20 kt early, ramping to N 15 to 25 kt with gusts to 30 kt by late morning into the afternoon. Waves 3 to 4 ft, occasionally 5 ft. The Bay gets worse as the day goes, not better.
Wind & Seas Outlook: Peak wind and seas are today behind the front. Monday softens (SW 10–15 kt, gusts 20 kt) before NE 15 to 20 kt and 3–4 ft seas rebuild on Tuesday with morning showers.
Marine Alerts:
- Small Craft Advisory — Atlantic coastal waters (Cape Henlopen to NC border): through late tonight
- Small Craft Advisory — Delaware Bay: until 4:00 PM EDT today
- Small Craft Advisory — Chesapeake Bay (north MD waters through Hampton Roads): through tonight; southern VA zones extending into Sunday early AM
Best Window to be Out: Sunday is the call — N winds drop to 5 kt shifting W/SW, Bay waves down to 1 ft. Today does not offer a usable window.
Worst Window: Today, late morning through afternoon, when Chesapeake gusts hit 30 kt.
Bottom Line: Leave the boat on the trailer today and target Sunday.
