🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — Friday, June 5, 2026

Small Craft Advisory up on the Chesapeake through tonight — pick your water carefully today.

Today on the Water: SCA in effect for the mid-Chesapeake (Pooles Island to Drum Point, including the Patapsco) until midnight tonight, issued by NWS Baltimore/Washington. Coastal and Delaware Bay waters are the calmer play. Radar shows a 41 dBZ cell with mesocyclone signature about 50 nm west of Dover — worth watching but well inland for now.

Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): Manageable today, but the back half of the period turns ugly. By Monday, NE winds build to 15-20 kt gusting 25, with seas 5-6 ft and occasional 9-footers. Sunday brings SW 10-15 kt gusting 20 with seas 3-4 ft, occasionally 6 ft, and afternoon shower chances. Cleanest window out here: Tuesday night, S 10 kt and 2-3 ft seas.

Delaware Bay: The pick of the litter today. W winds around 5 kt becoming S late, seas 1 ft or less. Saturday night softens to SW 5-10 kt with seas around 2 ft and a shower chance. Sunday night NE freshens 10-15 kt gusting 20 after midnight.

Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: SCA conditions on the mid-Bay through tonight. Saturday night SW 10-15 kt builds to 15-20 kt after midnight, gusts to 25, waves 2-3 ft. Sunday starts SW 10-15 kt gusting 20 with afternoon showers, then calms to NW 5 kt with sub-1-ft chop. LWX notes bay-breeze enhancement possible over the main channel by late afternoon today.

Wind & Seas Outlook: Peak winds Sunday into Sunday night across the Bay; peak seas Monday offshore with 5-6 ft and 9-ft sets possible.

Marine Alerts:

  • Small Craft Advisory — Chesapeake Bay (Pooles Island to Drum Point, Patapsco) until midnight tonight, 6/6.

Best Window to be Out: Delaware Bay this morning into early afternoon — light W winds, glass-calm seas.

Worst Window: Monday on the Atlantic side — 5-6 ft seas with 9-ft sets and NE 25-kt gusts.

Bottom Line: Stay off the mid-Chesapeake today; Delaware Bay and the nearshore Atlantic are fair game if you launch early.
