🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — Sunday, June 7, 2026

Small Craft Advisory up on the upper Chesapeake through 8 PM, and radar shows a line of cells pushing onshore from the Atlantic — today is a stay-close-to-port kind of day.

Today on the Water: Small Craft Advisory in effect for the upper Chesapeake (Pooles Island down through North Beach and Eastern Bay) until 8 PM EDT. Cells are moving WNW to W at 27-43 kt, meaning storms offshore of Lewes are tracking onshore and into the Bay corridor. Lightning risk over open water this morning. A cold front slides south through the day, increasing W-NW flow on the narrow waterways and the western Bay shore late morning into evening.

Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): Active convective cells within 12-29 nm NE and NW of Lewes, tops to 11-14 kft, all tracking onshore at 27-35 kt. Mariners offshore should expect rapid deterioration as cells approach. Cleaner air builds in behind the front but seas stay up — peak 4-5 ft, occasionally 7 ft on Monday with NE 15-20 kt gusting 25.

Delaware Bay: Cells offshore are working west toward the Bay mouth — expect gusty shifty wind and lightning risk through midday. Behind the front, NE 10-15 kt building to SE with gusts to 20 kt Monday afternoon, seas 1 ft building to 2 ft.

Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: SCA conditions on the upper Bay through 8 PM with W-NW flow ramping up late morning through early evening as the front pushes south. Monday brings NE 15-20 kt gusting 25, waves 3-4 ft occasionally 5.

Wind & Seas Outlook: Peak winds arrive Wednesday night with S 15-20 kt gusting 25. Peak seas Monday on the Atlantic at 4-5 ft, occasionally 7.

Marine Alerts:

  • Small Craft Advisory — upper Chesapeake zones, until 8:00 PM EDT today
  • Marine Weather Statement — Pooles Island to North Beach and Eastern Bay, until 5:30 AM EDT

Best Window to be Out: Tuesday is the clear pick — S winds around 5 kt going SE in the afternoon, seas 1 ft or less on the Bays and 2-3 ft offshore.

Worst Window: This morning through early evening on the upper Chesapeake, and Wednesday night basin-wide.

Bottom Line: Keep the boat tied up today — wait for Tuesday's calm window.
