🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — Monday, June 8, 2026
Small Craft Advisories blanket the Bay and Atlantic coastal waters today — a stout NE flow has the water stacked up and choppy.
Today on the Water: SCAs are in effect across nearly every Delmarva zone, most running through this evening or into Tuesday morning. NE winds 15-20 kt with gusts to 25 are driving 3-4 ft seas, occasionally to 5 ft on the Bay. A Beach Hazards Statement also covers Eastern Currituck and Virginia Beach through 8 PM. Small boats should stay tied up.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): SCA in force from Fenwick Island to Cape Charles, with the Chincoteague-south zones running until 1 AM Tuesday. Expect a sustained onshore wind regime and bumpy nearshore seas. Visibility manageable but conditions are not improving before late tonight.
Delaware Bay: Choppier than recent days under the onshore flow. Tuesday afternoon brings SE 10-15 kt with gusts to 20 and seas building to 1-2 ft — manageable for bigger boats but sloppy for small craft. Radar quiet across KDOX.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: The roughest zone today. NE 15-20 kt gusting 25, waves 3-4 ft occasionally 5 ft, with a short 4-second period making it a stacked, uncomfortable ride. SCAs run from the upper Bay down through the CBBT, most expiring 6-11 AM but the southern zones holding until 7 PM. LWX notes winds ease and back southeasterly later tonight into Tuesday.
Wind & Seas Outlook: Peak winds and seas arrive Wednesday night: S 20-25 kt, gusts to 30, seas 4-5 ft and occasionally 7 ft offshore with a chance of showers. Conditions relax sharply by Friday.
Marine Alerts:
- Small Craft Advisory — DE/VA coastal waters Fenwick to Chincoteague, until 10 PM tonight
- Small Craft Advisory — VA coastal waters Chincoteague to Cape Charles, until 1 AM Tuesday
- Small Craft Advisory — Upper & Middle Chesapeake (Pooles Island to Drum Point, Tangier Sound), until midnight tonight
- Small Craft Advisory — Lower Chesapeake (Smith Point to Cape Henry, CBBT), until 7 PM tonight
- Beach Hazards Statement — Eastern Currituck & Virginia Beach, until 8 PM tonight
Best Window to be Out: Tuesday mid-morning as winds back southeasterly and ease before the afternoon sea breeze kicks SE gusts back to 20 kt on the Bay.
Worst Window: Wednesday night — S 20-25 kt gusting 30, seas 4-5 ft and up to 7 ft with showers.
Bottom Line: Stay at the dock today; the Bay and nearshore Atlantic are a small-craft no-go until tonight.
