🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — Thursday, June 11, 2026

Light winds today set up a workable Thursday, but a building south wind Sunday night brings the week's roughest water — plan accordingly.

Today on the Water: No active marine warnings, but a Heat Advisory is up for parts of the lower Bay and tidewater VA through 8 PM. Hydrate, shade up, and watch crew on long runs. Winds stay light across all three zones with manageable seas. The bigger marine story is downstream: Sunday night looks rough offshore.

Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): Light and variable today trending southwest. Friday is the sweet spot — SW 5 to 10 kt with seas around 2 ft on a 6-second S swell. Conditions deteriorate sharply Sunday night as S winds climb 15 to 20 kt with gusts to 25 kt and seas building 3 to 4 ft, occasionally to 6 ft.

Delaware Bay: Quiet through the weekend. Saturday night is glassy — SW around 5 kt, seas 1 ft or less. Sunday night turns: S 15 to 20 kt with seas 2 to 3 ft before winds shift W 10 to 15 kt after midnight. Showers and possible thunderstorms with the frontal passage.

Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: Today is your window — W 5 kt, waves under 1 ft early before SW 10 to 15 kt with gusts to 20 kt fills in midday, then easing W 5 to 10 kt late morning. Sunday brings the biggest punch: SE 15 to 20 kt with gusts to 25 kt and afternoon thunderstorms. LWX flags brief near-SCA conditions possible behind Friday night's cold front.

Wind & Seas Outlook: Peak winds Sunday night: S 15 to 20 kt, gusts 25 kt. Peak seas same window — 3 to 4 ft offshore, occasional 6-footers.

Marine Alerts:

  • Heat Advisory — lower Chesapeake/tidewater VA zones, until 8:00 PM EDT today (NWS Wakefield)

Radar Check: KLWX and KAKQ quiet. KDOX last scan 08:53Z — no cells within 50 nm of Delmarva. Open water is clean right now.

Best Window to be Out: This morning through early afternoon on the Chesapeake before the SW fills in, or all day Friday offshore with light SW and 2-ft seas.

Worst Window: Sunday night, offshore — 25-kt gusts, 6-ft seas, and thunderstorms.

Bottom Line: Launch today or Friday with confidence; tie everything down by Sunday afternoon.
