🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — Wednesday, June 24, 2026
Small Craft Advisory in effect on much of the Chesapeake through 11 AM, then high pressure settles in and knocks the wind down for the rest of the day.
Today on the Water: SCA covers Chesapeake Bay waters from Pooles Island south through Drum Point and adjacent zones until 11 AM EDT. After that, winds back off as high pressure builds overhead. Atlantic and Delaware Bay waters are quieter, with light winds and low seas tonight. Radar is clean across the region — no active cells within 50 nm.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): Light pattern holding. East winds around 5 kt tonight, shifting south by late evening. Seas around 2 ft on short-period swell. No weather concerns through tonight — visibility unrestricted.
Delaware Bay: Easy water. SW winds around 5 kt tonight with seas a foot or less. About as benign as it gets on the Bay this time of year.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: SCA conditions linger through mid-morning south of Pooles Island, then winds drop below advisory levels as high pressure takes over. Waves build to 2-3 ft Thursday afternoon as SE winds pick up to 10-15 kt with gusts to 20 kt.
Wind & Seas Outlook: Peak wind and seas hit Friday night: S 15-20 kt, gusts to 25 kt, seas 3-4 ft and occasionally 6 ft on the Atlantic side with a chance of showers. Sunday looks like the calm reset — N winds 5 kt, 1-ft chop.
Marine Alerts:
- Small Craft Advisory — Chesapeake Bay from Pooles Island to Drum Point and adjacent waters, until 11:00 AM EDT today (NWS LWX).
Best Window to be Out: This afternoon and evening on the Atlantic and Delaware Bay — light winds, 1-2 ft seas, dry sky.
Worst Window: Friday night on the Atlantic — 25 kt gusts, seas to 6 ft, showers possible.
Bottom Line: Wait out the SCA on the Chesapeake until late morning; elsewhere, it's a workable day on the water with the calmest stretch coming this afternoon.
