🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — Friday, June 26, 2026

Small Craft Advisory on the mid-Bay through 8 AM, then conditions relax — but tonight brings the real punch with building southerlies and chop offshore.

Today on the Water: SCA in effect for the Chesapeake from Sandy Point down to Smith Point VA until 8:00 AM EDT — southerly winds easing after sunrise. Once the advisory drops, expect a manageable but breezy day with S winds 10-15 kt and gusts to 20 on the Bay. Showers and thunderstorms possible late, so watch the sky.

Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): S winds building to 15-20 kt today, seas running 3-4 ft and occasionally to 6 ft. Best window is early before the wind ramps. Chance of showers and storms after midnight tonight — visibility could drop fast in any cell.

Delaware Bay: SE winds 5-10 kt, seas around 2 ft with a short 4-second period — workable for most craft. Showers move in this evening and stick around overnight. Nothing severe in the data, but expect a wet ride after dark.

Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: SCA until 8 AM, then S winds 10-15 kt gusting 20 over the main channel. Wave detail S 2 ft at 3 seconds — that short period will make for a stacked, choppy ride. Slight chance of showers and storms late.

Wind & Seas Outlook: Peak wind and seas hit tonight on the Atlantic side: S 15-20 kt and seas to 6 ft. Sunday looks like the calm reset — NE 5 kt and waves under a foot Bay-wide.

Marine Alerts:

  • Small Craft Advisory — Chesapeake Bay Sandy Point to Smith Point VA, expires Friday 8:00 AM EDT.

Radar Check: KLWX and KDOX both showing two weak cells about 46-48 nm WNW of Wilmington, moving W/WSW at 31-33 kt — that's away from Delmarva waters. No convective threat over the coastal zones right now.

Best Window to be Out: Mid-morning to early afternoon on the Bay once the SCA expires at 8 AM — winds manageable before storms threaten late.

Worst Window: Tonight offshore — building S winds 15-20 kt, seas to 6 ft, and a chance of thunderstorms after midnight.

Bottom Line: Bay boaters get a usable window after 8 AM; offshore crews should plan to be back at the dock well before dark.
