🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — Saturday, June 27, 2026
Small craft conditions in play with shower and thunderstorm chances building through the day, and offshore cells already lighting up the radar east of Ocean City and Lewes.
Today on the Water: Small craft advisory-type conditions are the headline — moderate wind and wave impacts at times, plus showers and storms on and off. Radar shows multiple cells 19-29 nm east and southeast of Ocean City and Lewes, with the strongest topping 22 kft and tagged at 53 dBZ. Most are tracking SW/WSW at 12-25 kt, meaning they're working back toward the coast rather than scooting offshore. Lightning risk over open water is real if you're east of the inlets.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): SW winds 5-10 kt with gusts to 15 kt tonight, seas 2-3 ft at short period. Showers and tstms likely, mainly in the evening. Avoid pushing east of the 20 nm line — that's where the convective cells are sitting.
Delaware Bay: E winds 5-10 kt, seas 1-2 ft. A chance of showers through the day. The Bay is the most manageable water today if you need to be out, but watch for cells drifting in from the Atlantic side.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: SW winds around 10 kt, gusts to 15 kt early. Showers likely with a chance of tstms this afternoon. Fog and reduced visibility flagged in the LWX discussion. Waves short and choppy — SW 2 ft at 4 seconds.
Wind & Seas Outlook: Peak wind tonight with SW gusts to 15 kt; peak seas Wednesday at around 3 ft with S winds 10-15 kt gusting 20.
Marine Alerts:
- No active NWS marine alerts at issuance, but LWX notes Special Marine Warnings are possible this weekend with storms.
Best Window to be Out: Saturday morning before the afternoon convection fires — get off the water by early afternoon.
Worst Window: Saturday evening — showers and thunderstorms likely, gusts to 15 kt.
Bottom Line: Short morning runs on the Bay are workable; the Atlantic side is a stay-close-to-the-inlet kind of day with storms building offshore.
