🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — Sunday, July 5, 2026

Small craft conditions building on the Chesapeake this afternoon with SE gusts to 20 kt, while heat advisories cover most of Delmarva through the day.

Today on the Water: Heat is the headline ashore — advisories run through 8 PM across Delaware, the Eastern Shore, and points south. On the water, Chesapeake winds ramp SE 10-15 kt with gusts to 20 kt late afternoon, building waves 2-3 ft. Atlantic seas stay 2-3 ft with S winds 10-15 kt gusting 20 kt tonight. Radar is quiet across the region right now.

Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): S winds 10-15 kt with gusts to 20 kt tonight, seas 2-3 ft on a short 5-second period with a low SE swell underneath. Manageable for larger boats, sloppy for small craft. No radar cells offshore at the moment.

Delaware Bay: SE 10-15 kt this evening backing E 5-10 kt after midnight. Seas around 2 ft early, dropping to a foot or less overnight. Chance of showers and a thunderstorm this evening — watch the sky if you're out late.

Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: SW 5-10 kt this morning, veering S 10-15 kt by early afternoon and SE 10-15 kt with gusts to 20 kt late day. Waves build to 2-3 ft. Patchy fog possible. Get your run in before the SE fills in.

Wind & Seas Outlook: Peak winds this afternoon and again Monday with scattered convection. Highest seas tonight at 2-3 ft on the Atlantic. Lightest and cleanest window is Wednesday night.

Marine Alerts:

  • Heat Advisory (New Castle, Kent, Inland Sussex, Delaware Beaches, Kent MD, Queen Anne's, Talbot, Caroline) until 8 PM EDT tonight.
  • Heat Advisory (Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, Inland Worcester, Northampton, and NC coastal counties) until 8 PM EDT tonight.
  • No active Small Craft Advisories, but conditions are trending that direction on the Bay this afternoon.

Best Window to be Out: This morning through about 1 PM on the Chesapeake before the SE builds and gusts hit 20 kt. Hydrate hard — heat is the real hazard today.

Worst Window: Late this afternoon into evening on the Bay and nearshore Atlantic as winds peak and thunderstorm chances rise.

Bottom Line: Launch early, be off by mid-afternoon, and treat the heat as seriously as the wind.
