🌊 US Weather Warriors MarineCast — Monday, July 6, 2026

Flood Watches inland and a Marine Weather Statement on the mid-Bay this morning — expect a soggy, unsettled start with convection the main hazard on the water.

Today on the Water: Marine Weather Statement in effect for the Chesapeake from Sandy Point to Drum Point, Eastern Bay, and the Choptank until 6 AM EDT. Flood Watches cover much of the DE/NJ coastal plain (until 8 PM) and eastern VA into overnight. Radar shows a cluster of cells 35-41 nm west of Dover and WNW of Salisbury, some at 56-58 dBZ — those are moving WSW/SW, tracking away from the coast, so Delmarva open waters stay quieter for now. Winds are generally light; the story is thunderstorm risk, not gradient wind.

Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): Light and manageable outside of storms. Best offshore window is later in the week — Friday night looks cleanest with W 10 kt and seas around 2 ft. Watch for higher winds and seas in and near any afternoon cells.

Delaware Bay: Quiet gradient today. Wednesday shapes up as the calmest stretch with NE 5-10 kt shifting E, seas a foot or less. Showers possible with any convection drifting in from the west.

Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: Marine Weather Statement in play through 6 AM for the mid-Bay zones. Beyond that, Wednesday brings NE 10-15 kt with morning showers likely, then Wednesday night settles to S 5 kt and waves under a foot.

Wind & Seas Outlook: Peak wind and seas arrive Tuesday night into Wednesday on the Atlantic side — NE 10-15 kt, seas building 3-4 ft with occasional 6-footers. Calmest window is Wednesday night across the Bay.

Marine Alerts:

  • Marine Weather Statement — mid-Chesapeake (Sandy Point to Drum Point, Eastern Bay, Choptank) until 6:00 AM EDT today
  • Flood Watch — DE/NJ coastal counties until 8:00 PM EDT today
  • Flood Watch — eastern VA/NC border counties until 12:00 AM EDT July 7

Best Window to be Out: Wednesday night on the Chesapeake — S 5 kt, waves under a foot. If you need Atlantic time, wait for Friday night.

Worst Window: Wednesday on the Atlantic — NE 10-15 kt and seas building to 6 ft at times with morning showers.

Bottom Line: Short local trips are workable between storm cells today, but this is a day to keep the runs tight and the radar app open.
