Small Craft Advisory on the mid and lower Chesapeake through 7 AM, then a hot, hazy day with light winds behind it.
Today on the Water: SCA in effect on the Chesapeake from Sandy Point south through Smith Point, plus Tangier Sound and Bloodsworth waters, until 7 AM EDT. Heat Advisories cover most of Delmarva through 8 PM β hydrate hard and expect areas of smoke/haze cutting visibility. Radar is quiescent across the region, no cells within 50 nm.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes β southern VA coast): SW 10β15 kt easing to S around 5 kt as the day wears on. Seas near 2 ft on a mixed SW short-period and E long-period swell. Smoke/haze possible; no convection on radar.
Delaware Bay: Light and manageable. Winds shifting through S at 5β10 kt with seas 1 ft or less. Cleanest window of the local waters today outside the SCA zone.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: SCA through 7 AM on the middle and lower Bay from southerly channeling β stay in until it lifts. Behind it, winds relax to SW 10β15 kt going S 5 kt, waves around 2 ft. Sub-SCA NW flow arrives ThuβFri.
Wind & Seas Outlook: Lightest winds Thu into Fri (N around 5 kt, seas 1β2 ft). Peak hazard Sat night: SW 15β20 kt gusting 25, seas 4β5 ft occasionally to 7 ft with showers and thunderstorms.
Marine Alerts:
- Small Craft Advisory β mid/lower Chesapeake, Tangier Sound, Bloodsworth waters β until 7:00 AM EDT
- Heat Advisory (NWS Mount Holly) β DE beaches, Kent, Sussex, coastal NJ β until 8:00 PM EDT
- Heat Advisory (NWS Wakefield) β Lower Eastern Shore MD, Accomack, VA Northern Neck β until 8:00 PM EDT
Best Window to be Out: Late morning through mid-afternoon after the SCA drops at 7 AM β winds ease steadily and seas stay around 2 ft on the Bay and coast.
Worst Window: Pre-dawn to 7 AM on the middle and lower Chesapeake while the SCA is live.
Bottom Line: Wait out the morning SCA on the Bay, then it's a workable β if hot and hazy β day on the water before the weekend deteriorates.
