Today on the Water: Active radar cells are close to Lewes and Dover, including a strong cell 4 nm northwest of Lewes. Storms near the Bay and coast can bring lightning, sudden wind and sea increases, and a fast change in visibility. The most hazardous period builds Tuesday as southerly winds and thunderstorms increase.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): Today-specific wind and sea data are limited, but showers are in the forecast. Radar shows nearby cells, including activity around Lewes; movement toward the west or northwest is onshore-bound and worsens conditions near the coast. Tuesday brings south winds 10 to 15 kt, increasing to 15 to 20 kt in the afternoon with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas build to 2 to 4 ft, with a 4 ft southeast swell at 6 seconds.
Delaware Bay: Special Marine Warning conditions are the immediate concern through 5:15 AM EDT, followed by a Small Craft Advisory through Tuesday evening. Nearby convection makes lightning and abrupt wind shifts a real concern. Tuesday afternoon south winds increase from 10 to 15 kt to 15 to 20 kt, with gusts up to 30 kt. Bay seas run around 2 ft.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: South winds are around 10 kt tonight with 2 ft waves, the lightest listed Bay period. Southerly gusts around 15 kt are possible this afternoon, briefly 15 to 20 kt. Tuesday night turns rougher: south winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts to 25 kt, showers and thunderstorms likely in the evening, and 3 ft southwest waves plus 2 ft southeast waves.
Wind & Seas Outlook: Tuesday afternoon is the peak wind period offshore and in Delaware Bay, with south winds up to 15 to 20 kt and gusts up to 30 kt. The roughest Chesapeake period follows Tuesday night, while Atlantic seas peak Tuesday at 2 to 4 ft.
