Today on the Water:
Northerly winds strengthen to 10 to 15 kt this morning, with 20-kt gusts offshore and in Delaware Bay before easing later.
Atlantic seas run 2 to 3 ft; Bay waters are choppy at 1 to 2 ft. Radar is quiet across Delmarva, though isolated showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast this afternoon.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast):
North winds 5 to 10 kt become northeast 10 to 15 kt, gusting to 20 kt, then turn easterly at 5 to 10 kt late. Seas hold at 2 to 3 ft, led by an east 3-ft swell at 8 seconds.
The more manageable period is late, after winds ease; watch for a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms this afternoon.
Delaware Bay:
Northeast winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt diminish to 5 to 10 kt by late morning and early afternoon, then become easterly late. Seas are 1 to 2 ft.
Conditions improve after the morning surge, but showers remain possible. Patchy fog with 1 to 3 statute mile visibility is forecast Sunday morning.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters:
A northerly wind of 5 to 10 kt becomes northeast 10 to 15 kt, producing 1 to 2 ft waves.
The active advisory covers Bay zones north of Pooles Island through the Sandy Point and North Beach area; early-morning conditions are the roughest.
Wind & Seas Outlook: Today is the peak period for northeast wind and Atlantic seas. Delaware Bay turns southerly Sunday afternoon at 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt, and southerly channeling may bring advisory-level conditions Sunday night into Monday morning.
