Small Craft Advisory conditions are in effect for part of the Chesapeake, with southerly channeling and gusts building later today.
Today on the Water: A Small Craft Advisory is active for the Chesapeake Bay from Drum Point to Smith Point, plus Tangier Sound and waters around Bloodsworth Island, through 11 AM Sunday. South winds strengthen late, with 20-knot gusts possible on the coastal waters and Delaware Bay. Radar is quiet across Delmarva, but showers and thunderstorms remain possible later.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): South winds run 5 to 10 knots with gusts up to 20 knots, increasing to 10 to 15 knots late. Seas hold around 2 feet, with a short-period south wave mixed with a southeast swell. The earlier part of the day is the better coastal window before winds increase.
Delaware Bay: South winds are 5 to 10 knots, increasing to 10 to 15 knots late with gusts up to 20 knots. Seas are 1 foot or less early, building to around 2 feet this afternoon. Patchy early fog cuts visibility to 1 to 3 statute miles; a slight chance of late showers and thunderstorms is forecast.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: Southeast winds are 5 to 10 knots, with gusts up to 15 knots late; waves run 1 to 2 feet. The advisory covers the channeling-prone middle Bay and Tangier Sound waters this morning. Radar shows no active cells within 50 miles of Delmarva, though shower and thunderstorm chances increase later.
Wind & Seas Outlook: Today is the peak wind and wave period, especially late as southerly flow increases. Monday trends lighter, with north winds around 5 knots on Delaware Bay and south winds near 5 knots with flat waves on the Chesapeake Monday night.
