Radar is quiet within 50 nm of Delmarva this morning, though showers or thunderstorms are forecast at times later today. Any thunderstorm can quickly bring stronger winds and lightning risk on open water.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): Data is limited for today’s Atlantic coastal wind and sea specifics. The more unsettled stretch builds Thursday night, with SW winds 10 to 15 kt, gusts up to 20 kt, and seas 2 to 3 ft. Showers are in the forecast at times.
Delaware Bay: NE winds 5 to 10 kt become E late, with seas 1 foot or less through today. Tonight, SE winds 5 to 10 kt become S after midnight as seas build to around 2 ft; showers and thunderstorms are possible. The best Bay water is this morning through early afternoon before convective coverage becomes a concern.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: North winds near 5 kt become E late, with waves around 1 ft. A wind shift late this morning and this afternoon brings SW winds 5 to 10 kt, then NW and NE gusts up to 15 kt; waves run 1 to 2 ft. Showers or thunderstorms are the main disruption, with possible Special Marine Warnings this afternoon and tonight.
Wind & Seas Outlook: The rougher coastal period arrives Thursday night with SW winds 10 to 15 kt, gusting to 20 kt, and 2 to 3 ft seas. Friday remains the bumpier Atlantic day, with west winds 10 to 15 kt and 2 to 3 ft seas.
