Active thunderstorms near Delmarva are moving W to WNW onshore this morning, with a rougher southwest push and showers developing tonight.
Today on the Water: Radar shows numerous strong cells within 50 nm of Delmarva, including near Salisbury, Ocean City, Dover, and Wilmington. Their W to WNW motion is bringing conditions onshore, not pushing them offshore. Expect showers or thunderstorms at times, with fog or reduced visibility also noted in marine forecasts. Conditions turn more unsettled tonight.
Atlantic Coastal Waters (Lewes → southern VA coast): Tonight, southwest winds 10 to 15 kt gusting to 20 kt turn west late, with seas 2 to 3 ft. A chance of showers arrives after midnight. Friday is the cleaner coastal window: west winds around 5 kt and seas around 2 ft, with a southeast wave around 1 ft at 6 seconds.
Delaware Bay: Tonight brings west winds 5 to 10 kt and 1 to 2 ft seas, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Friday settles to west winds around 5 kt and seas 1 ft or less.
Chesapeake Bay & Delmarva-facing Waters: South winds 5 to 10 kt become southwest 10 to 15 kt after midnight, with gusts to 20 kt. Showers are possible after midnight. Waves include southwest 2 ft at 3 seconds and southeast 2 ft at 9 seconds. Saturday has north winds around 10 kt with 1 ft waves.
Wind & Seas Outlook: The near-term peak comes tonight, especially offshore and across the Bay, as southwest winds increase and showers move in. The larger coastal sea build is Sunday night: northeast winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts to 25 kt and seas 4 to 5 ft, occasionally to 7 ft.
